Have you ever had a job that just wasn’t taking you anywhere, and on top of that, you hated it? That’s how I found my way into barbering. Hi, my name is Mr. John, and I am the Owner and Instructor of All Around Barber School.
After returning from Afghanistan, I found myself stuck in a job that seemed to get worse every day. One day, my barber suggested I consider becoming a barber myself. With the encouragement of my wife and some contemplation, I decided to quit my job and enroll at Jay’s Technical Institute in Elgin, Texas. After passing my exams, I started working in a busy shop with 27 chairs. Later, I moved to a smaller, more intimate shop with just 2 chairs and returned to Jay’s to get my Barber Instructor license.
With my instructor license in hand, I taught at Jay’s for four years. During my time there, I learned how to maintain a strong student body and support my students in passing their state exams. With this experience, and again with my wife’s support, we took the leap and opened All Around Barber School in Pflugerville, Texas.
Our first year was a success, and we quickly outgrew our initial space. We have since relocated to Hutto, Texas, where I am excited for the new possibilities – new students, new clients, and new connections. Our mission statement reflects my goal: to set the standards for quality hair care in Texas and to help all students become successful Texas barbers.
Before I discovered my passion for barbering, I completed high school at Crockett High in Austin, Texas, and joined the Navy before graduation. The Navy gave me the opportunity to travel the world and develop friendships that remain important to me to this day. I served proudly with boots on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan, and I am proud to be a Veteran.
